Toplink nut stuck! How to loosen?

In the future, keep on hand some penetrating oil. The Liquid Wrench stuff that's widely available works pretty well. If you have something that is horribly badly stuck, try Kroil, an industrial grade penetrating oil ("creeping oil").

ditto that.. wd-40 is good for removing price tags or getting water off a distribuitor.. but when it comes to stuck fasteners.. it's not something I reach for.

WD40 purchased by the gallon. None of that wimpy spray can stuff........
Also keep PB Blaster on hand. Great stuff, works like a charm on siezed nuts and bolts.

These are my two best friends when it comes to rust. Once lossened take a wire brush to the threads, a little WD40 for flavour and you good for several years.

I'm also a fan of anti-sieze as well.

Buy a new one at TSC for $25. Then as you have time try and bust the othere loose with pb buster heat and a big wrench. Your threads may be buggered up not letting it move easily

I take stupid award of the day for trying to loosen the wrong way, but I did try both ways and it was really stuck. I loosened it by spinning leftward and using the pipe trick.....thanks...this forum is great.

I think the OP already got it off according to post #3.

Not that there aren't other good suggestions in this thread.

Tough to use on a T & T setup.

However, when rototilling, Bush Hogging, chipping, or flail mowing with the BX the vibration sometimes will lengthen the top link when tension is on it. In those cases the top link lock nut is snugged.

It probably doesn't make a big difference but when the top link is near its length limit it can separate. It only happened to me once but that was enough.

if I don't use mine, the toplink on my 5' mower mounted on my ford 740 will actually vibrate and loosen in use changing the lift geometry on me..

I do, otherwise the adjustment knob (more like a sleeve actually) always manages to wind itself to the top where it invariably develops a death grip that requires an ace torch to break loose. Works like a tie rod.

i sometimes (as of late ) weld a 2" rod to my TL nuts to make them a lil easier to tighten or loosen by just knoclking with any tool.. don't need correct wrench..e tc..
