Well, a degenerative condition has made me dependant on a wheelchair most of the time and it was getting ever more difficult to climb in the Kubota. A good friend witnessed this last week and showed up a day later and built me a ramp. Looks like I'll be tractoring a little bit longer. It going to be painful when I can't use my tractors any longer.:(

I'd say you have a good Friend. Wishing you good luck with the ramp.

That was very nice of your friend to do that!!

Good luck, be safe and hang in there!!

That really was nice of your friend. I am now using crutches most of the time and often a step to get to the first rung, but can see a time when I too will need such a ramp or lift.

Have you made any adaptations to your controls?

Glad to see you are hanging in there.

You might want to check with a place that does handicap van conversions and hand controls. People with very limited mobility are driving cars. I think the right shop could potentially set something up for a tractor. It would be worth asking about. Many of the adaptations have to be customized to work and fit so a tractor would be just one more challenge. Keep tractoring and good luck.

Take Care,

I think we all could take a lesson from the OP's friend - who, WITHOUT BEING ASKED, performed an unsolicited act of kindness for a friend. What a great thing!

A bit about me, I am getting progressively worse with my back issues. While I am still able to work (albeit I work from home), and still able to do most things myself, I am relying more and more on friends and family to take care of the "heavy lifting". Call it Missouri stubbornness or foolish pride - but I HATE to ask for help (which infuriates the Mrs.). Oh, if someone offers - "heck yes you can help". But it not - I will fight thru the pain (and pay the price for days) or it doesn't get done.

Blessings to the ramp builder, what a kind and thoughtful act of friendship and service you gave to your friend. Doing good feels good, does it not?

As the new year approaches, this may well be my resolution for the New Year...to identify the opportunities that I could provide unsolicited service or assistance to friends, family and neighbors - and then follow through. And although heavy manual labor is beyond my physical abilities, my mind works fine, and my tractor works well - surely I too can find numerous ways that I too can experience the feeling of doing good.

It wasn't my intent for this post to be about me, rather to share my perspective of how stubbornness or pride keeps me from asking for help - even when I really want/need the help. (I will never ask for directions either....but that's another post !! :))

Hang in there. You can do many things, some you can't. These things just take considerable more time, but it takes a great deal of improvising at times. This comes from personal experience. I rely on the use of a wheelchair, crutches and a pro thesis. No angel wings or accolades needed or expected in regards to my statements. I take care of my Wife-degenerative spine disease-our Son-Downs. I tend our 30 acres, and drive my L4400-gear drive- using a pro thesis to operate the clutch. I am not aware of the entire extent of your physical disability, but hopefully you can continue your tasks. Yes, there will be increased and often severe pain experienced at times, but with pure stubbornness and determination, you will most surely prevail. I never ever intended for my fellow members on TBN to become aware of my own problems and disability. But after reading your thread, I just wanted to perhaps let you realize that YOU can succeed and prevail. In closing, I have to say this: DON'T EVER, EVER GIVE UP. The best of everything to you, and my Prayers go out to you. This comes from the very bottom of my Heart and Soul.
