I think we all could take a lesson from the OP's friend - who, WITHOUT BEING ASKED, performed an unsolicited act of kindness for a friend. What a great thing!
A bit about me, I am getting progressively worse with my back issues. While I am still able to work (albeit I work from home), and still able to do most things myself, I am relying more and more on friends and family to take care of the "heavy lifting". Call it Missouri stubbornness or foolish pride - but I HATE to ask for help (which infuriates the Mrs.). Oh, if someone offers - "heck yes you can help". But it not - I will fight thru the pain (and pay the price for days) or it doesn't get done.
Blessings to the ramp builder, what a kind and thoughtful act of friendship and service you gave to your friend. Doing good feels good, does it not?
As the new year approaches, this may well be my resolution for the New Year...to identify the opportunities that I could provide unsolicited service or assistance to friends, family and neighbors - and then follow through. And although heavy manual labor is beyond my physical abilities, my mind works fine, and my tractor works well - surely I too can find numerous ways that I too can experience the feeling of doing good.
It wasn't my intent for this post to be about me, rather to share my perspective of how stubbornness or pride keeps me from asking for help - even when I really want/need the help. (I will never ask for directions either....but that's another post !!
