i think i've seen that kind of axe head in popular science.
it would have two dogs that would have cought on the edge of the log being split, forcing the log open.
only good for spliting.Dan H.

Re: Trash & Treasures + What is it's
Time to post a few more fun things.
Hand cranked drill press is sort of a re post. 20 Odd years ago I drilled some holes with 1, but it was not this 1. Maybe there is the other 1 some place???
Made by "Canery Otto Mfg Co." Chicago heights, Ill.
,
The head of a cutter mattock combines an axe with an adze. Thus, it has two flat blades, facing away from each other, and one rotated 90ー relative to the other. The blade is designed to be used for cutting through roots.
Not old but useful.

Forged horse shoe "Hanger"

Some I have no idea what they were for. Appear to be commercial made, but no logo on any of them.
Anyone know???

- 1993 NH 2120 (the best), 1974 MF 135 (sold, but solid), 1947 Farmall A (bought, sold, bought back, sold again), 1956 MH50 lbt (sold, in 1980, darn it)
Last two pics look like caulking chisels, used to tamp the oakum into a poured-lead plumbing joint. Oakum was packed in tight then melted lead poured in on top to seal. Worked well if never disturbed.
Could be used for the same on boat planking I guess.

Re: Trash & Treasures + What is it's
Here is some more fun stuff.
The Threading tools a interesting & useful, as they are still in good condition. The square dies are fixed sizes. The other 2 are adjustable and there are several different sizes & thread types. There is 1 modern type of die for a ratchet type handle. Some place there should be a whole set. The one here has been used with a pipe wrench so much it would never work with the ratchet handle.

Spur collection is interesting. The real long on I think is an old Spanish type. Those with big and / or sharp rowels are Mexican style. There are 2 pair that is the type we used. Dull rowels & fairly small. Most of the collection have been hand forged & forge welded.

This Last picture is something some of you old farm boys should recognize. What did you call them & use them for.
