Re: Damaged Threads in Wheel Hub - Thread Chaser or Tap - Or Call For Help
Fortunately, all the options outlined in this thread would be doable because JD did design the tractor with easy access to both sides of the hub. I could have easily run another bolt through - although I would not have liked the appearance from a cosmetic standpoint. I could have cleaned out or redone the threads easily. However, since I always go for the very easiest way, I just bought an extra bolt and ran it in from the back. That cleared out the threads at the front enough to pull a bolt in in regular fashion. Since some good threads were left and it took full torque, if figured it was good. I do know now to check those bolts more frequently so this won't be an issue again.

You might also consider a longer bolt and a locknet, if the threads were in pretty bad shape.

Lets say you totally ruined the hub and made the hole oblong. The bolt from the back and some JB weld to hold it there would work. Lugnuts on the front. Probably lead to sleepless nights though.

Re: Damaged Threads in Wheel Hub - Thread Chaser or Tap - Or Call For Help
glad to hear you got it repaired.

one slightly oblong hole with 5 good ones does not equal sleepless nights ....
any of the suggestions would work equally well , some are just more expensive and time consuming.
it all boils down to your level of esthetics and how Mcguiver (hope I got it right) you want to get. (just up and running or back to showroom)
just skip using "duct tape" to hold the bolt in place so it doesn't fall out.
