Today, i got my new pump. They sure look clean when they are new. Just gotta hope that this solves my problem. It is a Zextel pump, same as the one off the Massey 1010. I got it from Oregon Fuel Injection. Oregon Fuel Injection, diesel fuel injection pump, turbo, injector and diesel performance product specialist. It is a brand new unit but since it was a special order, it is nonrefundable and i have to send them my original pump so they can rebuild it and sell it. Fine with me, i dont need an unusable pump lying around. Total cost was $658. The fuel cut off switch moves much smoother on this pump than the others. definatly a benefit as the Diesel Kiki was froze up and you had to use a hammer to open and close the valve where this pump takes little to no effort. I got a bunch of pictures for if anyone ever needs information for the fuel injection pump for their Massey Ferguson 1010, Simplicity 9518, Allis Chalmers 5015, Hinomoto C172 and C174, or a Deutz Allis 5215.

Well, i hooked up the pump. Fist starting by bolting it down and attaching the kill lever for the valve in the pump. Then i put its cover on to keep the crank case from taking in diesel and dust. Hooked up the fuel line from the pump and turned the key to see how much pressure it was pumping out. It was only pumping at a max of a 2-3" spurt!:mad::( Same as the pump from the 1010. But since this is a new pump, i guess this is the pressure it is supposed to be pumping at. Hooked up the lines from the pump to the injectors and tried to get it to fire. It tried really hard, we sprayed a small amount of ethur (not reccomended) into the air intake but it still wouldnt actually start. After what seemed like a rediculous amount of time to start it, i called my mechanic at NewHolland to see what to do next. He said that i should remove the injectors and clean them out as well as inspect for rust pitting and gashes. He said he wouldnt be surprized if they were corroded like the old pump. So i took them all off and cleaned them out. What i found was that one has a small amount of rust which has been removed and one has 1 more washed than the other 2. I dont know if a little washer would make that much of a difference. any opinions/ideas? After cleaning them out, i put them back in and hooked everything back up. Tried to start it yet again but still nothing. :( i called Newholland again but all the mechanics were out on service calls and i cant get any help till tuesday. So, anyone got any ideas? I know some of you guys have done this kinda stuff before so i am asking for your help. any ideas?:(

I know this post is way over a year old ,just wondering if you ever got your tractor to run, what I heard and read is these diesel injection pumps must be retimed after rebuilding or doing any kind of work on them, would like to know your out come,I know you spent alot of time and good money $$$ reinstalling and reinstalling, why didn't this New Holland dealership/supplier or their mechanics give you this inportant info( on timing), I guess they wanted some more of your hard earned money, "eh"......live and learn as they say......take care Ampa, oops I just read back to the start of this post......your the young fella...ok....I noticed that first of all the ignition switch was missing, this is much needed for preheating the glow plugs....on my Bolens I installed a new Kabota type ignition switch, glow plugs must be in good working conditition, like be able to glow, now after running for awhile you can start a diesel back up without,or if the engine is in real good condition, top compression etc. it may start without, my Bolens has 763 hrs and will startup fine in the summer months that is or in a heated building in the winter months.....sorry to say mine stayed outside all year round, I had to install a brand new Napa block heater that after buying all the parts(brass fittings) and installing it myself, cost way more $$$ than that new injection pump of yours, diesel engines are nice to have and run a long time, but are real expensive for up keep.....get back to me if you can and let me know how you made out, I'm real curious as to why those mechanics would prey on a young 14 year old like yourself tryin' to learn the trade,I feel real bad for you and your dad,I know he spent a lot of time on this tractor as well,as far as I'm concerned this post is not finished without answers.....take care little guy....Ampa from Ontario Canada........

well, with the timing thing, the type of pump is actually a self timed pump, so it should work. It is brand spankin new, spent $650 on it a week ago. It actually does have an ignition switch, just not a key. A flat head screw driver solves this until i get it to fire. My mechanic actually is really knowledgeable on this machine as he used to work for simplicity. I will be calling him tomorrow to see what else i should do or if he could come out and take a look at it. It wasn't just me and my dad, my grandpa has been helping a lot on it to, bringing me back and forth to new holland and Napa for parts and answering my questions. I kinda have to get this thing running since i have so much in it already. I have decided that my next project will be a mini crawler so i need the $$$ from this tractor and my horse trailer to help pay for the tracks, sprockets, lawn tractor, idlers, hydraulic motors, and the hydraulic pump. Will cost a lot but will be well worth it. :D:thumbsup: With the simplicity, it may be a compression issue, i don't know, but i do know that the pump works.

I'm glad to hear you have all ends covered on trying to start it, but sad to hear you still can't get it to run,Hmmm, whoever told you it may be a compression issue could be right on the money, diesel engines are far more dependent on the correct compression for conbustion than gasoline engines, this be my first tractor to have a diesel engine all the rest were gas engines, gas engines will run ("not too good mind you") with lower compression where a diesel won't....hardly worth tearing into rebuilding this tractor of yours, not having it running means you don't even know if the trans/rear axle is trouble free, you may have bought someones nightmare, but don't feel bad we all do this in our lifetime, and you've just paid for a very expensive educational course, learn to ask questions about something that don't run that you have no way of checking it out mechanical aspects of it,I had some minor problems with mine after paying $3200 for it,but the guy told me to try it out before I bought it,for which I did,I knew nothing about diesel engines like I just mentioned, the HR meter showed low hrs.and proved to be correct, run real good then and three years later still runs like a brand new sewing machine, the guy that owned this tractor told me he had two of these ISEKI/Bolens tractors for which he sold the first one for $4000.00 , he also told me had more than double the hrs.on it, and only needed one tractor so he was set on keeping the the best tractor which is the one I bought, his wife convinced him to buy a brand new tractor with the proceeds, this tractor only needed new tires because of dry rot, original asking price was $3500.00,and if I knew how much new tires were going to cost I would have offered him much less, but over all I was able to get two new front tires at a fair price and two good used truck type tires for the rear, these work fine for me, these truck tires new are around 1/3 the price of Turf Tractor Tires that were on it,anyhow, young man I hope you can recoupe some of your expenses along with a much learned lesson on buyin' something you can't hear run or test out, learn to ask questions if your good at it the seller will mess up to correcly answering some if not most of your questions, somewhat like buyin' a Lottery ticket get all the numbers together correctly and you win ,take care......Ampa

Okay, status update. Last week i got in the back ordered glowplugs for my tractor. ($100) I got them in and took pictures. They were easy to install and add yet another "shiney" thing to this old machine. My grandpa has tried to start it and it still wont start. :( he has the battery charger on it because he came really close to starting so fingers crossed that we can start it. If not, i will be tearing into that engine to see what else i need to fix or replace. hopefully it wont cost to much, i already have $1700 into it. :(

Hey,

I just started reading through this point about the adventure with the old Simplicity. :D

I must admit I didnt read the whole thread in detail....
But, when you are spraying the ether does the tractor even putt or try to start? If not, is it possible that it may have a stuck valve or some sort of obstruction from a mouse or the like preventing it from even sucking the air in? I would think it should at least do something if the compression is good and the ether is actually making it to the cylinder wall.

It does putt a bit, even without the ethur now, but it still wont actually start. we have tried at full throttle and idle but there isnt much difference. I just want it to start and keeping running so i can sell it. Winter is on the way, time for that FFA project. but that is on hold until this tractor starts.

hmm.. so we have the pump working... is the compression of the cylinders right? any chance of a pressure leak?

have you pulled the head and turned it over to see if the valves seat and unseat properly?
