I have a Snapper Hi-Vac, and I believe that the engine is a 10hp Tecumseh. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that it is from the mid-eighties. My question is, the engine seems to pulse, or raise and lower in RPM when the blades are not engaged. Any suggestions as to what the cause of this is?

Jets in the carb need to be cleaned. Some of the older Tecumsehs had an idle circuit that was prone to plugging especially if the unit sits for some time with gas in it.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are but these can usually be cleaned rather easily.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try cleaning the jets. Ran some "Sea Foam," through it, and seemed to help quite a bit, but was still pulsing this morning.
