Can you use a york rake (or any rake) on ice in winter to break the surface so it has more traction ?

I have a '93 Toyota/plow/poly edge, and have a BX23 & am working on getting the BX2750 working on it.

But I'm still thinking that sometimes just running the rake over the driveway might do some good things.

Just a thought.

I do that when it's kinda soft and melting so i don't have a bob sled ride at 3 oclock in the morning when heading to work . it'll create some traction grooves.

Interesting idea. I had that idea sort of with the ratchet rake.Id imagine the ratchet rake would get better cutting action

I have a York brand rake and the teeth are square cut. I don't think that it would scratch the ice. Also the 3ph does not apply down pressure. The only down pressure is due to the weight of the rake.
As an aside, a york rake is terrible at raking leaves.

I once used a Subaru with studded tires just before a box truck came up the driveway. Surprised the heck out of me when he made it up the driveway.

I also threw some sand around (by hand).

I've used a rototiller on an icy driveway before, and it worked beautifully. Gravel drive though, wouldn't do it to a paved surface.

2" of ice on a hill I couldn't walk up went to slush and clear gravel instantly. Did it hurt the tiller? A bit. But with my use its still going to rust before I use it up... I'd rather put $5 of wear on my tiller than trash my new pickup
