Snow Attachments Survey - plowing snow with a rear blade

This topic has been covered quite a bit already, but I thought a little survey might bring together some good information. If you use a rear blade to plow, would you be willing to share:

- blade make and size
- tractor make and model
- length of driveway and whether it is paved, gravel, or dirt
- use skid shoes or not
- use blade for landscaping

I use a LandPride 2572 blade with hydraulic TNT on my Kubota L3010HSD. One thing that's typically overlooked in a blade used for snow is moldboard height. Some of the cheaper blades with 12" moldboards aren't much use in deeper snow; look for something with 15" plus. Ag tires loaded, with Norse ice chains on the rear. These chains are not for wimps; they have large spikes that reduce asphalt to crumbs and make for a bumpy ride. I plow one short driveway and another that is about 150' long, plus 1/4 mile of unmaintained town road. The long driveway is gravel, but everything else is dirt. I don't use skid shoes as they tended to break off with annoying regularity in the cold. I generally plow snow driving forward with the blade angled sharply to the side. When plowing over the gravel I still drive forward, but with the blade reversed so I don't scrape all the gravel away.

Landscaping? Heck, that's why I have a chainsaw and a logging winch! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

no skid shoes
have box blade for landscaping, but have used rear blade on occassion
haven't had a chance to plow snow with JD, didn't snow deep enough last winter, and what we did have cleared with my Craftsman 22.5 hp with rear blade.

- I've used the blade quite a bit for spreading topsoil

Only thing I would change is I would buy a heavier duty model that tilts. I have to adjust the side link which is a pain and only does so much.

primary use is to plow driveway and used extensively last winter. We had one storm 22" and several others in double digits and the blade worked great.
