Anyone have a Christian Medshare policy?

My wife had Christian Medishare to avoid the o-penalty. O-"care" is simply socialized healthcare, inversely proportionate to one's income, so the poor pays the least.
She got a newsletter every so often where CM paid some or all of someone's medical expenses. IMHO it was "loosey-goosey", nothing clear-cut about benefits. She paid them about 4 years about $300-$400/month.

My 86 yo mother is on Medicare with a supplement and it's worked very well for her/us.

My family plan at $1690/month is a disaster. I go to the doctor and pay what they think I owe. I then get bombarded over the next 6-12 months by every other group in the chain (hospital, labs, specialists etc.) for additional money the insurance didn't cover. Of course, by that point, you have no idea what's legitimate, what should be rejected or what should be referred to the insurance company.

There's no way the current system is even remotely efficient.

Who is your plan through?

There should be clear cut EOB's that show the service, the date of it, what was the charge amount, what was the network discount, any non covered amounts, the covered amount, what was put against any cost shares, and what you owe.

This is standard for any insruace company. It's by law it has to be very clear.

If it's not clear, it's a sign your insurance company is FUD.

We always pay bills early, and receive a discount for doing so. Then a month later we get a bill for an “owed amount” equal to the early payment discount we received. We have to fight it on EVERY BILL… thankfully the wife was in medical claims billing in a past life and knows the ropes. Hospital billing is really f’ed up, and people get screwed.

Medical billing can be so complicated that even the experts differ on coding and negotiated rates plus when your on the table and complications arise you can wake up with a big surprise...

It's one of the things I liked about my hospital before it merged with a higher hospital system...

As an independent a patient could actually walk in the door and have a face to face conversation with the head of business services often resolving the issue on the spot... no phone banks in other countries or endless hours on hold or conflicting statements and you could walk out with a receipt stating paid in full.

Yup, customer service is in India... It takes weeks to resolve what two humans could hammer out in 30 seconds. That is efficient.

I think it is part of a business model so customers give up and go away… don’t forget being turned over to collections and sleepless nights!
