Had the co-op do the big ones and I did the smaller ones myself. Took a gander at the alfalfa this afternoon, going to town. I was going to apply granulated (clay coated prill's) but went with 28 liquid because it cost less.

Nice thing about 28 liquid is it's foliar uptake.

This fall, I'll overseed with vernal alfalfa.

Doesn't hay put nitrogen into the soil? I know nothing about growing hay, though I bailed my share as a teenager

Only if it’s a legume, so yes alfalfa and clover does but grass hay like Timothy or Bermuda depletes the soil’s nitrogen content.

That is correct and my fields are all somewhat mixed. Why row croppers plant soybeans. The impart N in the soil as well. Never hurts to apply additional N as it increases the yield per acre and I sell it all anyway so yield is everything.
