I have a question on buying a new farm tractor. Is there sales tax or any other fees associated with buying a new tractor from a dealer? I'd like to buy new but am concerned that since I don't own a farm they might hit me with fees, I only use the tractor sometimes on a farm. Thanks in advance!

Find a dealer over the state line, no sales tax. Then there is the mater of shipping? Which is greater, the sales tax or shipping?

I would check your state statutes, it seems someone on here got their behind in a sling over this not long ago; states vary.

I believe here in Maine you are suppose to report the purchase and pay tax.
Right next door in New Hampshire there is no sales tax.

This said....nobody I know reports a purchase. Consumer beware.!!

Depends on the state. In Kansas, farm use exempts you from any sales taxes as well as personal property tax on the tractor. In Missouri, unless you quality as a farm under Missouri's more stringent guidance, you will pay either sales tax or if you buy out of state, Compensating Use Tax at the Missouri sales tax rate, unless you can show you were taxed at point of sale

Check out all of your possibilities before deciding......
