Yes. Much of a bend in threaded rod puts very hi stress due to the threads. ... Nearly all the bend is down in the thread grooves. This causes very high stress. One side closes while the other stretches. The closed side then prys against the roots of the stretching side. Best to grind the threads off the area to be bent.I would do the flat bar think as well. Bent threaded rod is a lot weaker than a u-bolt, the cross section of the thread is really small in comparison, then you bend it weakening if even further.
