How do I keep the engine shaft from turning while torqueing the mounting bolt? I used a large channel-loc to loosen it.

You can put a wooden dowel in a spark plug hole then slowly bring the piston up to rest against the wooden dowel. Some people stuff a rope in the spark plug hole then bring the piston up.

Thanks, what a crude way to do something. Looks like they could have added a couple of flats to the spacer even if they to make it a little thicker.

Yep that isn't a preferred way but it would get the job done. Just watch for getting rope jammed in a valve or the wooden dowel broken off in there. Other wise a strap wrench around the flywheel. I am surprised there hasn't been more of the wiser guys giving advice on your question. Good luck. Maybe let us know what you did and how it went.
