Cub Cadet 7274 27hp diesel. Oil level is creeping up, oil viscosity is thin and it smells kind of diesely. Primary suspect is the injection pump. Could it also be a fuel injector? don't think it's blowby because the oil is not pitch black yet. If this tractor has a lift pump, it not on the engine. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? Could it be hydraulic? Should I test the oil before investing in the injector pump?

If it is an injection pump, can someone recommend a rebuild service for it?
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I would strongly suspect front shaft seal on injector pump. If it runs ok I would replace the seal and be done. Be sure to run #1 cyl up and line up timing marks so you won't have to time it. Also scratch marks on the pump body and engine so you can put it back in same place. It is very important to verify the position of the gear on front of pump to gear in engine, should be marks on both be sure to line them up.
