I have 47 Backhoe that needs a new home.

I have had several large chassis CUT owners inquire about it. 4710, 4520 - like that. What is sad are all the economy series owners who have no idea that they can't add a hoe.

My understanding is that it fits just like the 48-447-448 hoes. So, it should fit just right with the corresponding mounting plates. The issue will be that it may not reach its full rated digging depth.

Does that sound right? Or, am I missing something?

Thx!

From what I remember, the 47 backhoe was only for the mid size 3000/4000 series compacts.
There was not a subframe made for the 47 backhoe to be mounted on the larger 4000 series tractors.
The 447 was also only for the mid size 3000/4000 tractors.

The 48 & 448 backhoes could be used on both the mid size & lager size compacts.

47 fits 4200, 4300, 4400 according to JD brochure

According to the 47 and 48 backhoe manual, the 47 can be installed on the 4200 - 4400, 4210 through 4410 and the 4500 though 4600, 4510 through 4710.
Here's a link to the manual:

The Rock Shaft Assist plates are going to be the problem...probably going to be hard to find. As far as digging depth...might be a bit reduced on the larger frame tractors due to the larger tires.

I have a 448 'hoe on my 4520...well, it's actually off right now (RFM is on the 3PH). It is a pretty easy installation, once you've done it a time or two. The process is almost identical to the 47 and 48 backhoes.

You need to reread that Roy.

Product Compatibility
47 4200-4400, 4210-4410
48 4300-4400, 4310-4410, 4500-4600, 4510-4710

The 48 also fits a 2014 4120.

That's not what is stated in the linked manual...as far as fit to the 4x20 series...might be a later serial number series, or the RSA plates were made (after the manual publication) for the 4x20 series.

I used the linked manual for my first dismounting of my 448 'hoe...and, I'll admit, there is a lot of similarity with the 447-448 manual.

The linked manual is where I copied & pasted the information from. It is from page 1.

This is what I saw:
Backhoe Model Machine Model
46 4100, 4110, 4115
47 4200-4400, 4210-4410
48 4300-4400, 4310-4410, 4500-4600, 4510-4710

Nothing about the 4120...

The 48 was available on 4x20 tractors, open station only though (same rockshaft brackets where used for 4510 & 4520, etc if the 4510 was built after 2002, before 2002 then the 10 series needed different brackets). Later on mount plates for the 485 where redesigned to allow for cab and hoe install (needed more room for the seat). Can't say for sure though that even with appropriate rockshaft mounting plates that the 47 will easily fit the large frame machines. But since the 48 was also available on the med frame there is a chance that it will work smoothly (holding breath). But wouldn't be surprised if dig depth ends up around 6'.
