Just wondering if anyone could give me a little input, I'm looking to pull the trigger on a used Ford 1500, 2wd would it be able to handle a Land pride 72" finishing mower FDR 2572.? it is a fairly heavy mower.

And as well ANY information good or bad you would have on the 1500 I would love to hear about!!
Thanks so much guys!!

Cheers

The XX00 series Fords are great little fuel sipping hard working tractors.
There are a lot of variables to finish mowers and finish mower use. i.e blade type, discharge position, depth of cut, how wet / dry is the grass, etc...

All that being said, I think (for what it is worth) the 1500 (17 HP PTO claimed) will struggle with a 72" finish mower under anything less than ideal conditions. Even under the best conditions that is a whole lot to ask. Overheating & and clutch life come to mind as immediate issues.

When we had our 1100 Ford, it had a 48" Ford rear finish mower, which it ran no problem. Mower was about shot, so we demo'd a Land Pride 48" rear finish mower. The poor little tractor didn't have enough "oomph" to run it. Lack of live or independent PTO just exacerbated the problem.

I have the 1500's big brother - the Ford 1700. About 25 hp and a similar 2-cylinder diesel. Also mine is 4wd. I use a 6-foot bush hog brand finish mower with it. I'm in SC so our grass is neither thick nor wet. The 1700 has no issues powering the mower at reasonable ground speed. I'd be concerned about the 1500 as it's a bit physically lighter. Also, I have five front weights and the heavier axle of the 4wd machine.

I'd think a 5-foot mower would be better suited to the 1500.
