Back in the mid 80s I can remember seeing new Toyota 4wd trucks selling for under $6k. Now for almost 3 times the price you can get something that's pretty much limited to driving off road. Of course back then you could buy a Honda ATC for about $1200. Even back in 2010 my dealer demo Big Red was only $7200. $14k to $18k is a lot of money.

Yeah the price of UTVs and ATVs is crazy. But the public keep buying them! Supply and demand.

Honda would have had my business and not Kawasaki if they'd designed the bed and rear seats more like the Mule ProFXT or the Kubota 1140 CPX. Hauling sand or small sized gravel in that bed and I'd be forever cleaning out from the cracks where the seats fold over. In addition, getting passengers into the back is far tougher and less comfortable than the Kawasaki Mule ProFXT or the Kubota 1140CPX. I'm a huge Honda fan but thing they really missed on the rear design of this machine. Everything else, engine, transmission, even looks, I'm 100% on board with.

Really liking the new Pioneer 1000. I'm starting to get the Honda reliability trust factor on it now. Was a little nervous with it being such a new design. Went on a solo 60 mile ride in the high country with no problems. Found some snow still lingering around.

Got back from playing and hauled some hay with it.

How many miles can you go on a tank of gas. Is it available with a diesel?

No diesel. It's got about an 8 gallon tank, I haven't really checked it but with normal driving it should go about 100 miles.

Some things I've learned to prevent damage is it really can't go less than 3mph or it may risk clutch slippage. I'd really like a 1 mph crawl though. If pulling a heavy load I think it's best to lock differential rather than being in turf mode. Afraid something might break with just one tire pulling.

The seat can get hot from the engine. I put a aluminum insulation shield under seat and helps a lot. Other than that I'm thrilled with it.
