I've been reading through the site for a while now and decided to go ahead and join. I have about 90 acres of family land in western North Carolina that I (more or less!) take care of, grow a good-sized garden, and sell a little hay. I'm by no means a farmer - I grew up hoeing tobacco and herding cattle, but we got out of that when I was a teenager. We use most of the land for firewood, hunting and wildcropping. I use a David Brown (Case) as the workhorse, a Cub Farmall as the pony, and a Honda four wheeler as the jack of all trades. My main interest here is building implements, especially for the four wheeler, to maintain the land and help in my main task: fighting the underbrush!

Welcome.

Any of your relatives/friends/neighbors still growing tobacco? I'm just curious as to whether farmers are having trouble obtaining contracts from the tobacco companies.
