Fatwood is saturated with pitch. It will be heavy for its size, similar to wet wood. Put some heat to it and it will smell like pitch. I like the smell. It will be easy to light with just a match because the pitch is completely flammable with many easily vaporized compounds that catch fire very easily once heated. I love using fatwood to start fires in my wood stove. It burns better and longer that the same type of wood that has been saturated with wax. I wonder what the heat energy of pitch is compared to paraffin wax?

I don't think so either. Don't smell like turpentine. Does not catch fire easy. Can't seem to find out what it is. Looks like petrified wood. But it's not hit rock form yet if that's what it is
