L3130 Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my L3130 has quit working. It reads empty all the time. It looks like it shares a circuit with other gauges, which are working fine. Before I pull the sender, is it common to for a sender to go bad?

yes, they DO go bad, sometimes the nichrome wire used for the resistor breaks, or the sender jams up mechanically. touching the sender wire to ground for a very short time will make the gauge needle move if it's good..

The sender can be fine and still not work. There is a float which is supposed to move it. If the float sinks your tank will always read empty. Of course it could also be your gauge or a wire or connector anywhere in between.

My L2501 is so inaccurate I might as well not have one. I just do it the old fashioned way - stick and eyeball.

Replaced the sender years ago in the L3130, the connection to the ceramic resistor board (no ni-chrome on mine) was bad, corroded up by the water in the biodiesel here. Open hood pull pins and slide hood of the pins and remove sender, may be able to clean up, but probably replace.

I guess a variable inductance transducer would last too long!.. they want to sell parts!..

Pulled this sending unit out of the L3600 I'm servicing.....the ohm meter doesn't move when I test it.....
Looking for a new one....didn't see it in the parts on-line at Messicks. Any other ideas for sourcing one?

It's not show in the Fuel section like one would think.

Check out the electrical system and B10301 SWITCH/SENSOR [EXCEPT CAB [CA] TYPE]
