345 mower
Having issues with John Deere 345 lawn tractor.
Mows fine until it hits heavy grass or an ant hill. Then, it stalls like it is not getting enough gas. It doesn’t die, but runs rough and sputters. If I push the choke forward just a bit, it recovers and runs through the tall stuff fine.
I’ve checked to see if blades are binding. I’ve cleaned the air filter and replaced the fuel filter.
It runs perfectly in normal grass. I slow way down and raise the blades all the way up, but anything other than light grass causes it to stall. When it does stall, I stop immediately but the engine coughs and sputters for a minute or so, then runs fine. Also, turning off the blades make is recover immediately.
Any ideas?

If you have a two cylinder engine be sure both cylinders are running. If they are you might try adding "Sea Foam" to your fuel. Choking to keep it going indicates you may not be getting enough fuel. The Sea Foam will help clean things up. It's also possible your fuel pump is not putting out enough fuel.
