I have an older Steiner S-20 that has the muffler one the side of the machine (not under the hood), in a similar setup to a Steiner 410, except it is on the right side of the machine instead of the left. The factory muffler is extremely loud, it sounds like it's essentially a straight pipe, I think it's just old and the packing is long gone.
The factory muffler appears to be discontinued and I am looking for a quiet replacement. I found Onan 1551258, which is for Onan generator applications. It is supposed to be very quiet, but I am worried about too much backpressure since Onan generators usually run at 1800 RPMs, and I run at 3600 rpms.
The Onan muffler is bigger but I can make it fit vertically, and, it would be nice to make this thing as quiet as possible.
Any ideas whether there will be too much backpressure?
Thanks,
