The KLR is a fun dual-sport bike, I had a '89 KLR 600cc it was more of an off-road bike, but I had it tagged for the street as well,
looks like the Newer ones like the one you have seem to be designed more for street use with perhaps a little off-road use option,

My Dad has one. My uncles and him had off road bikes as kids, I guess it makes him feel young again. I give him a hard time about working on it more than riding, not that it's broken, just tinkering. He enjoys tinkering as much as riding the thing. During the week he rides it to work come h*ll or high water and on the weekends he drags my poor mother along on all sorts of back roads, state forest roads and logging trails.
