I'm building a dump bed for my '77 GMC 1 ton and I'd like to use the PTO pads on the tranny for the pump instead of a 12V power unit. I've got 0 experience with PTO's on trucks. I'm really looking for stuff like model numbers of potential fits that I can search for on ebay etc and any things to stay away from. Half of the reason for the project is just to learn something new, but at the same time I'd like to spend as little as possible. Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

On manual transmissions, there is usually a PTO plate, and put the correct PTO boxes on, (there is some controls that will be needed as well, then run a drive shaft to the pump, depending on the type of system some pumps are built into the reservoirs some are stand alone with a separate reservoir,

note: large down load but should answer many of your questions, 600+ pages of catalog) 42MB

from this place, Chelsea Power Take Off PTO Units & Parts

http://www.baumhydraulics.com/files/catalog/sec-k.pdf look on page K23 for the self contained units, and the specs, there, that are used on many dumps lifts, I have seen, (much useful info in the beginning pages as well),
from Baum Hydraulics Corp

some people use the under the hood pumps that are clutched like a AC unit, besides mounting it is all one unit, Baum carries them as well, K27

I am sure there are other places to get the parts from, but posted for information purposes.
