I had a couple of those water hose reel; wheeled carts. Well they did not last long. They started leaking at the swivel and new O rings did not help. So I used the reel from a cart and made my own utility hose reel. The key to this reel is the PVC water pipe and swivel. It has not leaked in 3 1/2 years. If it did leak a few O rings would fix the problem. I made this reel to have handy near my burn pile. It has 120 ft. of hose.

The one thing that did not last was the wooden base holding the reel. It just rotted away. So I am making a new base and using the old reel. This winter I hope I have time to make a better looking hose reel. Still using the PVC concept. The 4 ball bearings support the water pipe and reel and allows for easy roll up.

Well I got her done. I still used used wood, pressure washed. Thick coat of Thompson Water Seal. Painted rust spots on old metal reel. Found an unused axle and wheels. This will make it easy to move. May not be pretty to some, but it is beautiful to me.

The original one was a prototype to see if it would work. It works great. So I have to build a better looking one. Make the swivel smaller. Picture shows it with water pressure. No leaks, still using old seals.

My mom-in-law gave me a self standing plastic hose reel. I never used it for hoses. It works great for winding my 100ft extension cords onto it.

I just have 3 cheap hose reels from The Home Depot.

And I have 3 water hoses, also from The Home Depot.

I also have the 45 degree connectors on each one.

The hoses are supposedly lifetime warranty. Mine stay out in the weather year round and everything is 7 years old.
