]Hey all, new to the forum. I acquired a Harry Ferguson tractor today(I think I'm in the right place?) And am wondering what I got. The research I have done says its a 1948 te20 but it has a high/low 4 speed transmission so I'm confused? The serial number is to39482. The dash, rims and engine, trans and rear end are red the rest is a very light grey. It looks very original but I don't getbtge colors since the te20 was all grey. Thanks the help!

Dan

Dont go off of the colors, cause it could have been painted several times between 1948 and now.

As to the trans, 4 speed is right. And I do think the sherman hi-lo's were offered for them to.

When identifying a tractor, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Here are some Ferguson TE20 posts from the T-B-N archive:

There is also info on Wikipedia.

Harry Ferguson's most important claim to fame is as inventor and developer of the Three Point Hitch, both the mechanical and hydraulic parts. While extremely talented, Ferguson was also extremely difficult; the only person he could get along with for more than 3-4 years was his wife.

I am no expert, but I would guess a TO20 since the serial starts with TO.

As to the colors, someone likely painted it to look like the 8n that was more popular. Soemthing that likely happened back in the 60's. 70's, or 80's.

I would also look into the hydraulics and plumbing on that loader. It looks possible that you have some plain sch40 pipe fittings on that control valve, and not hydraulic fittings like you NEED. If they are indeed only sch 40 fittings, they only have a 300psi working pressure, and your loader stuff is likely 1500-2000. And you DONT want a fitting blowing up in your face.
