I am looking for a tractor for the following uses:
Main use will be mowing (3 acres--2 of which is field, 1 is lawn). I'll also be tilling large garden, grading lawn around house to prevent water from pouring into basement, general landscaping, and moving snow (if it ever again snows more than inch at a time here in Kansas).

I know I could try to do much of this with a good garden tractor. But after reading posts here and elsewhere for awhile, I feel as if I would be better off for not much more $$ by getting a subcompact or a compact.

The BX tractors look pretty good to me and I am sure will do all I want. A dealer here wants $9650 for a BX1800 w/60" deck. Does this make sense for me?

Another thing I am considering is a 1990 B1750 HST, diesel, 4WD, 60" deck, 3 pt, 1000 hours for $8200 asking price. Would a B1750 work for me, or might it be too big vs. the BX? Also is $8200 a good price?

Thanks for the help.

David - If I were in your shoes there would be only one answer - Bx2200

David, either one ought to do the job and not be a bad deal, but personally, I agree with PaulB; get the BX for size, lower center of gravity (less likely to turn over), and warranty.

As a BX owner, I feel it can do the job. It may be worth checking around at other dealers on the price. Don't know what they are selling for. BX Availability seems to be a major issue currently (back ordered).
