Woods zero turn mower FZ25D Hydro problems

i bought a used FZ25D mower with steering problems. owners manual states that it could have a parker pump or Hydo Gear pump. one side seems to surge and then falter. I think it is the pump but should I replace pump or pump and motor. Is Parker better than Gear pump and is there an alternative to Woods parts? Don't want to replace any more than I have to.

I would suggest trying to locate a model number on your existing pump. Both Hydrogear and Parker are still in business so possibly parts or replacement is available. Some Woods model used Eaton series 11 and if one of these you are probably in trouble since a lot of those models have been discontinued with parts also being very difficult to find.
