Best way to repair tire chain

Had a flat on the front tire while I was pushing snow this afternoon, and before I realized it the chain had slipped off and wrapped around the axle. Wound up busting about 6 or 7 sections of the chain. I figured the best link to get to repair is this kind:

I plan on welding the end so it wont pull out. Are there better options?

you can get replacement cross bars too

I found some old sections of the same front chains I had cut off when I shortened them to fit onto the tractor's front wheels. I used these cross bars to repair the broken ones. I did need to fix one link that was broken. I used a link like I pictured above. I welded a small section of the link where the pin goes through the hole. So far it has held up.
