Noticed this oil leaking down on left front rim. The pic is the inside part or rim.
It apears to be clean motor oil from what I can tell.

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?
I noticed it a couple of times before since I sometimes have to put air in tire from slow leak. Didnt think much of it since it wasnt much at all. Thought it may have been from somwthing else.

Im thinking a seal in hub?

If it's a 4wd system, the seal at the front axle may have failed. Have you checked the oil level in your fwd system?

I had a similar look on my 'bota B9200 a while back and, yes, the spindle seal was leaking. It was leaking because the bearing shot craps which then took out the oil seal. The roller cage had broken in the bearing letting the balls seperate and in turn letting the shaft deflect into the seal. It was not a difficult job replacing the bearing and seal just a little messy.
There is a terrific load on these outer bearings in uneven terrain where the front axle pivot bottoms out and then the one front wheel is carrying all the load. This is even more severe when a loader full of heavy material enters the equation.

glad to hear it's not a difficult job. I know how some of these projects can be. (of course dont want to "count my chickens" just yet....I know how JD builds the outter parts of tractors and ya got to disassemble half the tractor to take a foot pedel off, lol)

Guess I something to do now. grrr!

Great explaination too. Now when ya explain it that way, I won't wait on the repair and do it now.

Thank you.

We had a leak like that as well, took the hub off, inspected everything including the seal. Would have taken quite a while to get parts so I put it all together and no more leaks. Apparently dirt had worked into the seal and caused the leak. Hasnt leaked again for a year, but we have the seal ready to be installed if it should happend again.

I took the hub off and have to run up to hardware store. My snap ring plyers wont get the snapring off. (need a bigger set)

but bearings seem to look ok. The outer part as some play but so does the other side which is NOT leaking. So, I may clean very well and see what happens. (been digging alot lately and I have a feeling the same thing has happend with mine, dirt)

I have the big black service book for the maching, but it's freaking hard to find anything in it. (like its written by engeneers, so to find "fuses" you would look under "breaking panel" or some crazy title) and the number system is nuts. (Not a simple chapter 1,2,3, etc, but more like 1034-864....pain in butt)

Hardware wanted $29.95 for snapring plyers......I dont think so. (maybe if they were not an off brand......should of known better)

So i took couple of the prongs in my set....heated them up a bit and then bent them over. This gave me enough spread to open ring up to remove.

Not being able to get inside or outter bearing out....seems to be pressed on? I went ahead and just spray cleaner inside and out.....rinced really good and then used low heat gun to dry out. Going to let it sit for a xple hours just in case for any water still there. (sure its not a big deal....but I will know in my head it was clean and dry)

But I can tell already the hub spin much much better. Of course i know there is no oil but it still think it was dirt now cleaned.
Thanks for mentioning this above. Hope fully this is my problem.
I will post to "close thread"

thanks again for this reply. After install and drained other side for a complete fluid change. (boy, pain in butt having to wait an hour for oil to drain threw bearings to check level)
but I have used the tractor and the 4wd for a couple of hours and no leak!

Must have been dirt. (I had been digging some holes and front end getting down and in dirt)

.....just wanted to post so if others read the thread they won't wonder :)
(I hate threads where OP doesn't finish the thread with an update of what the end results were or what they did)(hint, hint) LOL

thanks TBN

Thought so with looking at your picture. Didnt know if the dirt was the cause or effect of oil being all over the rim but I'm glad it worked out for you. Only really a few reasons for a seal to leak, shaft deflection (wheel bearing etc..) worn out seal or debris between the seal and shaft.. At least in my experiances.
