    Default New front tire again.....

Two years ago I finally slashed one of the worn out fronts on my JD4300. They were ten years old so I bought two new at $140 each(Carlisle). One of them has had a slow leak since last fall so I took it to the tire shop today to get her done BEFORE it failed in the maple syrup bush (should start running tomorrow).
When he popped it off the rim and looked inside he declared it dead.
Both of these tires have lotsa tread left but the casings look like they have been out in the sun for 20 years. Since I need the tractor to do firewood tomorrow we decided to remount the tire while he orders a new one. Thats when things got nasty. In two years the price has gone from $140 to about $190 plus tax.
Has anyone found another 14" lug tire rated at 2100lbs capacity. He says that Carlisle is the only make he can get and while I have owned many sets, I have always had a problem with them.

What size is the tire? AG or industrial tread?

    pat32rf,

Are these R1 tires? If so I have to question the load rating as Carlisle only rates these to 990 lbs each @25 mph. Info can be found here: Carlisle Transportation Products

Titan (Goodyear) has the size you're looking for.
    8ply 1170 lb rating: Titan® Tire catalog
    6ply 990 lb rating: Titan® Tire catalog

Since you're in Canada, I'll leave it up to you to find a suitable supplier.

BearCat 73454 Wood Chipper. LandPride RCR2672 Rotary Cutter. Approximately 290 hours

Carlisle shows them as their Trac Chief 6 ply. Titan shows a tire with 1/2 the weight rating listing at $1000 !!!!! Can't find anything under Firestone, Goodrich etc

It used to be you could look at a tire catalog and look for 14" tires, then refine your search to 14' M&S. Now you must show either year and model of vehicle or aspect ratio, traction rating, etc before you find that they don't make that tire in 14".

It sounds like you have R4 Industrial tires and looking up the data on your JD 4300 the front tire size would be 25x8.50x14. Providing this information up front would really help people focus on what you're looking for.

There are a number of complaints about Carlisle tire quality scatter throughout the internet.

Here's a site with Titan (Goodyear): Skid Steer Tires

Here's what Titan (Goodyear) offers: Titan® Tire catalog
    option 2: Titan® Tire catalog

Other options would be to check with any John Deere, Kubota, etc. dealers.

There are several ebay listings that ship to Canada.

Another listing: Titan Trac Loader Skid Steer Tire 25x8.50-14

Firestone appears to have adopted metric tire sizing at least in the online catalogs I found. Perhaps they have a size if you want to convert to the equivalent metric size.

    How about some pictures?

I have used Carlisle for several years without a problem. It's one thing to complain, it's another thing to show proof.

In fact I just mounted the very tire you are complaining about.

The 14" Carlisle Farm Specialist is only rated at 990lbs, half of what I need. Their Trac Chief will do, but the two year old Carlisle tires that I am replacing look as cracked as the 12 year old Titans on the rear, and they are still going strong, cracks and all.
I have a set(four) of 14 1/2" Carlisle trailer tires that went the same way after two years. At four years old they wouldn't pass a safety inspection....

I once (20 yrs ago) had a camper trailer with new replacement Carlisles on it. Made it to PEI before the first quit, the second almost made it home to Ontario.

Moship seems to have found a better site for Titans than I did....(with much better pricing) Going to get on the phone Monday as they don't show any dealers within 150 miles, even though there are some Goodyear dealers closer.
Sorry I didn't give more details on size in my first post but I didn't want to get dressed and go back out in the snow

My JD dealers all say to call a tire store.... The inside of the casing is cracked and would destroy a tube, even though the exterior is fine in that area.
