I have an 05 chevy 1/2 ton crew cab that I haul a 30 hp TLB and round hay bales with every month or so. Currently I use a ball mount car hauler type trailer. I have been thinking or going to a gooseneck deck over with a beaver tail, or a ball hitch deck over and keep the car hauler.
My question is, how much proformance will I gain with the gooseneck over the ball mount. I know that the truck is undersized for the load but I can't justify running 20,000 miles per year with overkill just to run 500 miles per year with the right truck. My loaded trips are usually less than 30 miles. I would like to help the truck any way that I can. |

I would personally stay with what you got until you get the proper tow rig. In my state it is illegal to tow a trailer with a higher GVWR than the trucks tow rating. So say you get a 14,000# trailer it will be over your trucks 8,500# tow rating or there abouts. Even empty you could get fined.
Plus if you have a warranty issue and the dealer notices the hitch in the bed it will give them fuel to deny you claim. Chris |
