Ford sure is keeping me confused with their constant diesel engine shenannigans. Makes me want to keep my '99 250SD with the DT444 (7.3PS)
until it gives up the ghost.

That's the cheapest/smartest thing to do. I kept my '99 Superduty 7.3L until a few months ago and it was pretty much a trouble free engine, but the automatic transmissions are junk compared to today's. You've got a handshaker so you're OK.

I think the Cummins is a top engine but its so heavy . It must make light trucks like the Ram plow into corners . It would be an awsome engine if they could cast it in alloy . I wonder if an alloy block (with cast iron liners) and head could handle the shots fired by the Cummins ?

Yes, it does plow in corners. The solid front axle doesn't help (still standard on 4x4, was also on 4x2 until 2006 MY). I think the engine weight of the ISB is around 1000lbs, and it is a surprisingly small package for that weight.

FWIW, I see no reason an alloy block with iron liners wouldn't work just fine.
