They sound like a real gutsy truck which would satisfy many drivers needs . And yes i'm aware of HP and Torque curves being horses of a different colour but i would think @ 3000rpm the horses would be starting to line up at the gates as it would be getting out of it's torque band when pulling in (direct) gear on the highway . Could someone post a picture of one as we do'nt get them down here .

Yeah I don't think so...

I would love to see the dyno that you got this info from but the Tundra 5.7l is not that impressive under 4500 rpms. Here are a few dyno charts I found, I will look for more.

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/dynos/tundra57.jpg
This one from Magnaflow shows only 320 lb.ft. at 4750 rpms, looking at the line before that, there is no way it made that much at 1200 rpms. That is diesel territory.

http://www.dmrcar.com/FeaturedGaller...an_tundra3.jpg
Here is another not showing over 300 lb.ft until over 3800 rpms.

I will say that the power does not look bad and the Tundra seems to have the least amount of power loss through drivetrain (weaker/lighter parts will do that...) but there is no way it makes that kind of power that low in the rpm range.

The major problem with that graph is it doesn't show anything until about 1950rpm, and even then its "start" value is 20hp? ummmm no! something is fishy with that. dyno a diesel with a start value of 1950 and a redline of 2200...based on that graph you wont see much period. cant say what power it produces at 1200-1500 rpm if there are no data points for it.

find some dyno runs (not from some marketing dept of some performace product) with decent low end data points and we can continue to discuss the merits of real world low end grunt (as if seat of the pants isnt enough)

Better engineering and tighter tolerances will do that.

Do yourself a favor and see if the dealers will put the trucks up on a lift and let you look under them. Compare the frames: size, construction, crossmembers and averything else you can from the bottom. I looked at the Tundra when it came out, expecting to see a truck that used the best of everthing already out there, I was very disappointed. GM will be releasing the 6speed trannies on their 1/2 tons for 09 but the 4sp is a proven tranny. If you want a true power horse engine in a half ton GM is supposed to be putting the 6.2L in the Chevy linup this year and expanding availabilty in the GMC linup.

There has been some really good deals on Dodges and Fords lately since they are trying to clear inventories for new models being released this year.

That torque chart is directly from the '07 Tundra brochure, 2nd page. If I had a scanner(and knew how to use it)I'd scan and print the page for ya I can't imagine Toyota would print bogus numbers in anything so widely published, but who knows I would think there would be legal ramifications, false advertising, etc., if they had/did Peak torque at 3600rpm/where does it start??

yeah that 6-speed tranny GM is coming out with in the trucks has me really interested! i have a 2004 Silverado with the 4 speed, and wish sometimes it had a 6 speed in it. can't wait to see how these things do when they come out. if they hold up fairly well in their first couple of years, i might have to sell my truck a little earlier then i had planned and buy a new one if there is one thing though i wish GM would change on the new trucks(other then some cosmetic looks) its the mode where it switches to 4 cyl. to be quite honest, im getting around 17mpg mixed driving with 285 tires, and the stickers on the new ones are only touting 14-18mpg. hopefully that 6 speed will make much more of a difference in mgp increase then the 4cyl mode has.

Actually, its clearance because everyone is going broke on trucks.

I've used my Tundra hard with no issues. Says more to me than a quick once over.

Ours is made by four paws. I did a net search and they look like they've changed it since we've bought it.
Like I said, it's fleece lined for comfort, and our boy Whopper doesn't mind it at all.

*edit* ours looks like this,

Thank you, none of the ones we tried were lined, will see if I can find one locally, the nearest Petsmart is 1hr away.

Heck, I can crawl under most of them now adays... no need for a lift. My issue now is the fact that Toyota is buying back my rusted frame Tacoma this friday, giving me $16,700 for my '98 and a voucher for $2000.00 off a Tundra... and I want to replace it asap... not wait until next year. The chevy dealer told me he couldn't legally sell me a 1500 due to the fact I wanted to tow more than it was rated for, he said it was only rated for 7100lbs. Somebody else said there was a 1500HD out there with the 6.0 that would do what I needed. Maybe dealer is just trying to get me to upscale to the 2500. The Tundra is rated for what I want to tow, ~7500lbs of tractor, trailer and stuff. Headed back to a different chevy dealer on thursday and see what they say. I did find a 04 Dmax 2500 with 51K miles on it, but the dealer is asking $4K over KBB for it, and it is a little rough.
