No doubt the 6.5L is a red haired step child, but the point is if you can get one for thousands less, might be worth a look.

those are usually the rusted metal flakes, the shinny ones are alum. from the injection pump. here is the run down on what it will cost to fix it at your local gm shop.
injection pump 1798.00 + 6.1 hours
lift pump 162.96 1.0 hour
fuel filter housing (complete) 213.00 1.0 hour
drop tank clean lines 150.00 to have tank boiled + 5.0 labor
injection pump gasket 2.00
intake gaskets 35.00
15 gallons of diesel + stanadyne performance formula (20.00) added to fuel to get warranty on pump

fuel injection nozzels are 80 - 120 depending on how much your parts guy likes you
glow plugs are about 30.00 each pull the turbo and knock it all out at once,
turbo remove heat shield, 4 15mm mounting bolts to manifold, 8mm band clamp bolt ( losen up exhaust at flange makes it easy to install) air outlet hose and braket. soak the manifold bolts the night before in heat riser penitrate to make removal easy.
when you pull the fuel return lies off be very carefule with the clamps they are 3.00 each, put a dab of greese in the ends of the return lines and push them back on with the clamps in place or you will be hatin life

on another note we just droped a brand new 6.5 in a 95 1 ton, her bill was 13,000 and some change
have a nice day

1 owner truck, her husband bought it before he died. she pulls 4 horses with it to go on trail rides. you can count on the average 6.5 to go through an injection pump every 35-55k miles and hers had only had 2 pumps put on in 130k miles. she blew an oil cooler line while driving and took out the motor, which is one of the most common problems with 6.5's, i had new ones made that does steel braded hose instaed of the ole rubber to metal lines.
6.5's have a few quirks and really got a bad name because of all the guys who didnt know what they were doing when they worked on them. ive worked on them for 10 years and actually enjoy it.
easy money
