I would like to move the referenced utility building on my trailer about 300 miles. All but the last 30 miles are interstate. My trailer is more than adequate, but I am wondering if I should just dismantle it into sections and put it back together, or try to move it intact. That is a long way and a lot of wind drag. Any opinions?

It really depends on how well you like the building, how easy it is to dismantle, and how well it is built.

Here's my attempt: http://wood.bigelowsite.com/shed_moving/index.htm

There were two sheds. The first was only moved half a mile, and the second (mine) maybe 10 miles, and all back roads.

Initially, I was going to pull the roof off, and then the sides, but after spending 5-6 hours over two days trying to partially dismantle the building, I gave up and just hauled it as-is.

A solidly built 8x12 building has at least $800-$1,000 worth of materials into it at Home Depot prices. A cheaply built one has maybe $300 worth of materials. Either one can be built in a couple of days.

It's going to cost you at least $150 to move either one (federal mileage rate). What's your time worth?

Myself, I'd think long and hard about moving a small building that far. I had the opportunity to move the one in the above pictures again when I moved to my current house, and decided against it. Wasn't worth the time and effort, and that was a nice, solid shed, and I was only going 30 miles.

8x12 300 miles and I am concerned about transporting an 8 x16 50 miles away; here to my place .
I can buy the building for 500 dollars but what is it going to cost to get it here?

Me thinks my gypsy caravan would've looked awful silly on the interstate

A call to the state patrol might shed light on the permit process.

What permit?
I thought having license plates on the truck and on the trailer gave permission.

I think the permit issue comes up depending on the width of the building. I have been told we can move a 10' wide building with no permit in Tennessee, but wider buildings must have a permit. Not sure when you have to get an escort, too, but I think it has to do with the width of the building.

the other issue that comes up is the height of the building when it is sitting on your trailer. Seems like 10 feet talll is where you start running into problems.

300 miles of interstate travel towing a trailer with an 8 x 12 building seems a bit stressful to me. No telling how it would affect your gas mileage.

Probably more work to disassemble it than to just put it on the trailer and haul it.

Maybe sell it and buy a another one at the new location?

Don't do it.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm convinced to sell it. My plan was to use it temporarily to store small items until I get a pole barn built anyway. I can live without it.
