| Top 10 most "American" cars I ran across this article, it is based strictly on content, not the parent company. The 10 Most-American Cars - Auto - FOXNews.com

| Re: Top 10 most "American" cars I think that list may come as a surprise to some. I knew Toyota sourced alot of parts from North America, but that list even surprised me a little.

| Re: Top 10 most "American" cars My experience with those lists is that you can skew the definition of what is "American" and what isn't.
For example in the OP's article, I love my Canadian brothers to the north, but they're not American. No worse or better, but not American, so I don't know how a Canadian built product can be considered "American made".
The other thing is, I don't care if Toyota builds a 100% American made truck and Ford builds a 78% American made truck. The corporate profits from the sale of the Toyota still go (untaxed) to Tokyo and the corporate profits from the Ford still go (taxed-of course ) to Dearborn Michigan. (Off shore based companies don't pay corp income taxes).
My preference is they go to an American company on American property.

| Re: Top 10 most "American" cars I am not surprised 1 bit on the numbers. It has been that way for a number of years. About even with the domestics holding half the top 10 and the foreign auto makers holding the other half.

| Re: Top 10 most "American" cars Disappointed to not see a "big 3" pickup truck on the list. I know Toyota put a lot of thought into approaching the full sized, work truck market in North America.

Like I said, I wouldn't get too wrapped-up in that list, they can be skewed.
I think it makes complete sense that the foreign makers building vehicles here have lots of domestic parts. If they had to ship them all from japan, it would be very costly and since our gov't is more friendly to foreign companies than domestic companies, they have a huge advantage to locating & manufacturing here..

I think every consumer should buy the best vehicle for himself/herself
regardless of origin. If that is not a so-called domestic, then competition
will force less-desirable brands to make better cars or go out of business.
Even government rescues are only stop-gap measures.
Now that said, I went "domestic" in 04 with my CA-assembled Tacoma.
And the most reliable American-branded car is the Ford Crown Victoria, of
mostly non-American content (assembled in Windsor, ON).

Toyota can build all the cars here they want, but until they are headquartered here in the USA, they're a foreign car company.
