I have a 2005 Dodge 3500 Quad Cab 4wd short bed SRW. I have 80K miles on it and the shocks are starting to feel soft.

I don't have a suspension lift, but I do have bigger tires (315s - H2 tires).

What shocks should I put on it?

Thanks
Darin

Bilstein's seem to be the best thing going for the heavier trucks. Cost a bit more but hold up better.

I have been looking at Bilstein and Rancho.

The best choice is the bilstiens in the HD version. I've heard nothing but 100% positive about them for hd truck applications. Just make sure you get the yellow hd ones and not the 5100's those are more for sporty handling than hd work. There's an online retailer that runs a special where you buy three get one free. Check it out.;)

I second the Bilstiens. I put them on my CC diesel at 30K miles. Made an incredible difference in ride handling and stability over the stock shocks. I have 70K on the truck now. I will be doing another set of bilstiens when I do the leveling kit.

Also have heard good things about Ranchos, but I do not have any experience with them.

On my F350 It cam with Rancho's and they were good shocks, when I changed them I too added larger tires---LT 305's and at that time I installed the HD Bilsteins, I tow an RV that weighs in around 12,000 lbs. They do seem to handle evrything much better.

Which Ranchos did you have and which Bilstein did you go to?

4 wheel store has their super shocking deal page:

Shocking Deals

Bilstein 4600s for $249.99

Lots of different models of each brand.

I might have to go by the local 4 wheel parts store and talk to them.

There's two shock's that do well on the Dodges. One is the Bilstein HD's (blue/ywllow), and the other is the 5100's (silver/black). The HD's are only for stock lift and suspension, and I believe the 5100's will work with a stock suspension up to a 2" lift on the front end. The 5100's are the better shock IMO. Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories Geno痴 Garage sells both of those shocks, and the 5100's are only about $5 more.
