On the fence over a 11 or 12 model year.
Need to be able to tow my 12K dump trailer.
Like creature comforts.
4x4 is a must.
Supercab only not crew cab or regular cab.
XLT or Lariat package, don't need the King Ranch bling and the XL is to plain for me.
6.5' bed only, 8 footers I don't care for them.

So what would you get and what would you avoid?

Gas or Diesel is another debate but I have no problem laying out the money for the diesel motor if the MPG can make up for the difference in fuel cost over gasoline.

I don't see a problem with either a 2011 or 12 towing 12K according to Ford towing specs. The 2012 may have some extra creature comforts. According to the specs the Diesel would give you some extra tow capacity but in dual rear wheel models topping out at 17,500 conventional and 24,500 5th wheel. Single rear wheel is around 16,200 for conventional trailer. Check Ford.com for all the specs.
As for mileage, I'd say diesel would be better especially when towing.
Personally I'm a GM guy and have owned both gas and diesel in the past. I preferred the diesel but don't have enough need or use to justify owning one right now. For the minimal amount of towing I do a diesel costs more to maintain.

I just bought a Dodge Diesel used, a 2004, 3/4 ton Quad Cab. So far the mileage I'm getting is around 20 mpg. The same route I was driving with my 1/2 ton GMC was 13 mpg. My Dodge has a chip and open exhaust, so that might help on mileage also. I'm not sure how the newer Ford Diesels do for MPG.

On the other hand, I figure I'm saving only a few hundred dollars on fuel a year, even though I bought used, I paid a premimum for a diesel, so maybe dollar for dollar, a gas truck is better? All I can say is the turbo Cummins puts a smile on my face, and sometimes thats important also.

I don't think there is much difference between the 11 and 12 model years. I would go with the one I could get the best price on. This time of year that would probably be the 11. As far as the gas or diesel arguement that has been beaten to death for years. I don't think the fuel mileage increase of a diesel is enough to outway the extra cost of fuel and maintenance (that has been my experience anyway). Having said that I do not ever plan on going back to a gas engine in the truck I use for towing. I think the diesel has an easier time with the load behind it.

I bought a 2011 F250 CC 4x4 with the 6.7 in August. One the first trip I got just over 22mpg on the interstate at 70mph. I hand calcualted the entire trip to Dollywood and back home and I got 20.8mpg. I now have just over 2,000 miles on it and I have only towed once. I averaged 13mpg with a 8,000 pound load for 50 miles. I really like the truck and I am not loyal to any brand. I went with the Ford because of the interior room and because of the quietness of the diesel. Now for the bad.

The are several forums on other sites about a guy who had a fuel pump go out at 30k miles. Ford blamed it on the fuel quality and denied his warranty. It was a $9,000 bill and his insurance paid the bill. The truck was towed to the closest dealership which said it was a fuel problem. He had the truck towed to his dealer and they said it was a faulty fuel pump. I am really concerned with how Ford handled the matter. You can read about this on rv.net and Ford Truck Forum.

I drove the new Chevy Duramax and the new Dodge Cummins and I went with the Ford. I am now wondering if I made the right decision. The new 6.7 had very few problems when I made my purchase and I researched for months. You should get about $10,000 of MSRP on a 2011. The 2011 selection is getting low.

Skip the F-250 and spend the extra $600 and get a SRW F-350. Single Rear Wheel SRW 1 tons are the best thing since sliced bread in my opinion.

Look at the GVWR of a F-250 and the highest is around 10,000# while a SRW F-350 is around 11,500#. Thats 1,500# more payload capacity or tongue weight capability.

I have a 04 F-250 and a 06 F-350 SRW. Both trucks are otherwise identical but the F-350 is a beast when you compare it to my F-250 and the 05 Dmax I had. I also had a 03 2500 Dodge but never really worked it.

Most modern 1/2 tons have as much or more payload, not towing, but payload capacity than most 3/4 tons. Skip the 3/4 ton.

Before buying the diesel, you should spend some time reading about it... I have followed this thread and the original poster of it is a dyed in the wool "BLUE OVAL FANATIC"....

These engines are still having some issues.... Our friends have a 2012 F250 Off Road that is in the shop right now. It has 4700 miles and lost the turbo..

I love my 2011 ford superduty.I have the 6.2 gas motor,city/highway mileage is 13.8 mpg.coobie

I ordered a 11 F350 w/6.2 gas and took delivery this past february after I sold my 06 gmc 2500 duramax because of persistant problems. I am really happy with my ford. Really couldn't justify the added cost for the diesel motor or the fuel to feed it, so I went with the gas motor. Hard to tell exactly what my mpg is because of the 35" tires, my speedo is off but i guestimate its around 14mpg. I went with the 350 for 2 reasons, extra payload and higher clearence to fit 35's with the stock height.

So far I'm satisfied with my '12 F-450. Shop foreman at the dealership I use says they have had very few problems with the 6.7 diesel. He said they have had some problems with the version that is installed in the chassis cabs but the pickup version has been pretty much problem free.

If you can find an '11 F-250 like you want, I'd recommend buying it. Hardly if any difference in the '12's and you might just as well get as many rebates and low interest financing as possible.
