Found a 1 owner clean crew cab with 144,000 miles for $6,700.00. Don't know much else. I rreally like the 7.3 over all the new diesels. Is it worth it? It looks cleaner and nicer and has less miles than my 2000 F150. Just thinking about belts, hoses, injectors, glow plugs and other costly up keep on a truck this old.

I am not real familiar with the 7.3 Is it truly a PS or is it a old non turbo 7.3?

If it's a '95 7.3 then it's a Power Stroke. Good trucks! Keep a spare cam sensor.

I had a 1995 F350 crew cab 4x4 PSD 5spd. I really liked the truck, but the last 40k miles I owned it, the repairs ended up being equal to the payment on a new truck, so I traded it and bought new. Everything up to 200k miles was pretty basic maintenance, it was 200-240k that got me.

I agree with the comment about a spare CPS in the glovebox, and keep a 6pt 10mm wrench in there too.

Glow plugs, glow plug wiring harness ( it is built into the valve cover gasket), glow plug relay (Napa GPR109 if I recall correctly) are all pretty common issues, none of which are very expensive.

If it has a 5spd, the factory dual mass flywheel is a poor design, you will end up upgrading to a LUK 13" clutch assembly.

Chris

1993 Ford offered a 7.3 idi non turbo and a 7.3 idi turbo (ATS turbo I believe)
1994 Ford offered a 7.3 idi non turbo, 7.3 idi turbo (automatic only) and a 7.3 di turbo aka Powerstroke, (5 spd manual only)

1995 Ford only offered the 7.3 di turbo / PSD in both auto and stick

1999my ( actually 1998 ) Ford introduced the Superduty

2003 Ford offered both 7.3 di and 6.0

There are only a few split years in the ford diesel history. I think 1987 was one also, changing from the 6.9 to the 7.3

For almost $7k, you should be able to get the newer body style (99+) diesel. I had a 94 non-turbo diesel that was pretty weak and the E4OD 4-speed auto in those trucks was a constant problem as well.

I doubt he will get a 99+ 4wd and crew cab 7.3psd for 7k$, in the milage range he wants.

I looked for months to find my DRW version of that machine. lots of 10-15K trucks I looked at.. and most of those were hosed. found a couple cheaper that needed work.. etc.. so.. still about 10k.. etc..

That's an fair price for the mileage. I love that body style. The 7.3 in my early '99 continues to amaze me. It just turned over 268,000 this evening. The auto trans...not so much (I'm on my 4th rebuild).
