I will be making a 4 hour trip this Friday to pick up a Ford F-500 cab over engine model cab and chassis. The truck is a V8 model, all stock and comeplete. I am hoping to be able to use my 18ft car hauler, with a 7000 GVW. Trailer weight empty is 2000, so that leaves me 5k for payload. I am guessing the weight of the F-500 to be between 3,000 and 4000lbs, but I have limited knowledge of these old trucks, and it is just a guess. A google search did not return any results for dimensions or curb weight.. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Here is a picture off of the internet of the type of truck I am picking up minus the bed 220px-Ford_C600_COE.jpg, not this exact truck, but you get the idea.

I think its a lot heavier than that. Most of the old F-700 and 800 dumps I drive are 10,000# empty. Granted they are dumps but I have also driven a couple of old early 60's GM C60 grain trucks and they are every bit of 8,000# empty. Heck, a For Ranger is 4,000# and a F-150 is pushing 6,000# now days.

I'm thinking that same 8000 lbs or so, maybe more. A big factor is the frame on the back.
That's a great truck you have and I have been on the look outt for one myself. I've just been searching EBAY and Craig's List but are there other options?

About 8000 lbs sounds like a good number to me, I agree with Chris and sixdogs.

that's what I was thinking, Id say bare min. for that truck with the wheel base at its shortest position your looking at least 6000 pounds.

Im not gonna tell you your business but if it was me I wouldn't risk it with that trailer.

My $.02

!951 F-4 Chassis-cab has a shipping weight of 3805 pounds, and 10,000 pounds GVW with duals.

1951 F-5 had 14,000 pounds GVW. Can't find shipping weight.

I like those old snub nosed trucks. I hope you post pix of it when you get it, and whatever you intend to do with it.

There's a lot of steel in those old trucks. I'd figure on at least 10,000# to be on the safe side. May be less since it's not a diesel. Great looking truck!
