Should be a good old truck. Before I went to the Ford diesels, I used to run GM 1-tons with the 454, 4-speed, and a low rear-end. Beast of a truck. It'll pull just about anything. If you've never had one of these before, here's a couple of "heads-up."
First, don't expect great gas mileage. You'll likely see about 10 mpg empty, and 5-7 mpg pulling heavy trailers.
If you have problems with the engine missing, especially under load, check the spark plug wires. 454's are famous for frying plug wires. The easy fix is to buy a set of "lifetime warranty" wires. If you keep the truck, you'll use the warranty. :D (I always bought the NAPA wires)
Enjoy it. A 1-ton can really come in handy around a farm.

I had the identical truck from 97 to 99 but with a bed and it was a light blue, almost silver. I honesty cant remember if it was a 96 or 97. Never had a mechanical issue. I had a Boss V Plow on it. It was awful in the snow and mud compared to my SRW trucks but like I said, mechanically fine.

Thanks for the heads up! Its not going to be a daily driver so I'm not really worried about MPG. The only thing I can find wrong with it is the power steering hose is broke and more important than anything the breaks barely work! That's my first and most important on my list I don't care how much a truck can pull if it can't stop it safely then its a worthless truck! So wish me luck on the breaks!

If the power steering hose is broke, the brakes won't work. My 90, 454 had hydra-boost breaks, just like a diesel. I assume a 96 is the same way. It uses power steering pressure to run the brakes, rather than vacuum like the smaller trucks.

It has weather guard boxes on it and one is missing a door! Can you order just a door from them?

its nice to have a good farm truck. i picked up an old 86 chevy with a dump bed. it needed work though, brakes, carborator work, plugs, wipers, etc, but its paid for itself already, plus the dump is great. enjoy the truck.
