Our plain jane 2003 F550 crew, drew almost $20K at auction two years ago. We were expecting maybe $12K. It had 60,000 miles on it.

7.3's draw big money.

if it were me i would look at a newer truck without the problem tranny

Most of the 7.3's will make 300k with this problem tranny you speak of, AND it is actually the converter, more specifically the lock up friction area that is too small when people start adding 100+ HP with chips. The 99's were known for noisey converters but would run a long time. With the new diesels you will be lucky to get 300k out of one without major repairs. The cummins and the new 6.7 Ford so far are the exceptions. I have only seen 2 6.7's so far with close to 300k but they have been doing good. I would love to find a 00-03 7.3 crewcab to replace my 01 extended cab. CJ

neother of my 7.3's are chipped.. hope that adds some life to the trannies. one of them is in a 450 and it DID pull a motor home for most of it's life before I got it.. probably 110km of it.. so will see how that goes.. :)

I have had a number of 7.3s....never had a OEM tranny make it past 80k.

as far as i know.. neither of the trannies in my 2 have been repaled. the 450 is just about to hit 130k and the 350 is on 190k... the 350 will drip a couple drops of atf out the front seal when warm and parked downhill.. but not when level... I don't fret about it much.. :)

My 4R100 in the '01 I had made 115k before it gave up the ghost.

Not without repair they won't.

I hear ya. My '99 is closing in on 290k and I'm on my fourth transmission (could be five...I've lost count.) The engine runs great, but it's getting harder and harder to keep up with the leaks.

While I had an older truck (94 non-turbo 7.3 IDI diesel), it had the same basic transmission (E4OD vs. newer 4R100) which was horrible and constantly slipping and failing. Plus the random blinking O/D light and leaking transmission oil pan...

My 99 7.3 had some 120,000 miles when totaled. Original tranny with fluid changes every 30K. Truck was sold to a local kid and has been rebuilt. Truck was chipped and worked all the time pulling big loads.
