The 4.6 made 305hp in truck form. But go ahead and follow the flock and buy on HP alone. I look at TQ and the total package as a whole. Ford is still #1
Which truck made 305 HP?
The last I see is the 3-valve in the 2009-2010 making 292 HP / 320 LB-FT.
The RAM V8 4.7l made 265 HP / 330 LB-FT and for 2012 makes 310 HP / 330 LB-FT.
So go ahead and look at just the TQ, Ford is still behind #1.
Where did that TQ and "total package" get your precious Titan in recent towing test? Last place!

Any ideas on what the tow capacity will be?
In the Jeep, they match the tow numbers with the HEMI option. I doubt they'll rate it at over 10k lbs like the HEMI but I bet it will be close. $2300 over the HEMI sounds reasonable but still makes it a tough choice.

I was hoping to see a smaller displacement direct injected HEMI. Kind of like what Ford did with the V8 5.0l. I think this is where GM is going with their redesign of the 5.3l which could turn out to be a great engine. Honestly, I would choose the Ford 5.0l over a small diesel (or strung out twin turbo V6) if they were both in the same truck.

Maybe the EPA will lighten up with more diesel options coming out.

yeah i remember the chevy diesels i had one in a bucket truck the biggest money pit i ever owned in my life. i have a 07 dodge 2500 cummins now and it is a great truck if you need a power house, im getting rid of it i don't need it and the cost of general matinance is high. i agree with some who say a diesel in a 1/2 ton pickup is just not senceable. the towing capacity of 1/2 ton is not enough to need a diesel engine. i can't see where you could save any money owning one. just my opnion

It will survive, and thrive. It already has the high revving hemis beat,, lays down more torque, and gets better mpg. It will be a hit. And it will also end up with competition from GM ad they will have to release the smaller duramax now.

Thank you Dodge!! :)

Well obviously the big wigs thinks it will be but I'm looking at fiscal sense. 5 years ago I would probably agree with you but Im no so sure now. Sure you'll always have the die hard gotta have a diesel cuz i like the smell guys. A cut back version might be perfect for what they want if it costs them more or not.

Enough with your teenage banter!! You are sounding like a born again Christian, just because you like the ecoboost and Ford does not mean everyone else has to.

I dont care how many turbos they put on it, it will never lay down the torque like a diesel!! That is fact!!

I don't care what motor is in it Ford in my opinion makes the toughest trucks period. I said nothing about the EB. Taking my prejudice away I still put GM at #4 or 5.

GM had diesels in full light trucks & blazers before any of them had diesels. Its not a new concept.
Just like electric cars. They were around 100+ years ago, but some people act like theyre such an unbelievable new innovation. My great uncle drove battery powered postal trucks back in the depression era.

I remember seeing a few Dodge pickups with the diesel emblem on the tailgate in the late '70's. Must have been real low on power because they disappeared about as fast as they appeared. GM started putting the 5.7 Oldsmobile diesel in the 1/2 ton Chevy and GMC pickups in '79. These trucks basically had NO tow rating, about 120 hp and maybe 200 lb/ft torque. GM brought the 6.2 diesel on the market for the '82 model year in the full range of trucks and Blazers/Jimmys/Suburbans. Lots better engine than the Olds but still low on power. I had a new '82 GMC 2500 with the 6.2 that blew two headgaskets within the first three months I owned it. My '83 Jimmy had the 6.2, never any problems with the engine but the trans blew up at 50,000 miles.

I would like to have seen Dodge put a small Cummin's in the new 1500, but anything is better than nothing. As more diesel powered vehicles come to the market, more manufactures will want to offer diesels in everything from other 1/2 ton trucks to small cars and trucks. I think this will only help diesels progress quicker and give us better choices and better mileage in the future. Also in the long run it could help stabilize the cost of diesel fuel and help us see a long term reduction in the cost of a gallon of fuel.
