stand up or slide in ramps

Need a trailer to haul my kubota 5740 and had originally thought about a trailer with 5200 # axles but for a few hundred more I decided to go with a 14000 # 18+2 dovetail (may need to haul broken vehicles) trailer. Leaning towards getting the stand up ramps but was curious what others opinion was. Trailer will be used most for hauling tractor .

I had a 16 and 22' trailer one with fold up and one with detached ramps that are just stored were every I could find, sold both and looking for a full tilt equipment trailer. I have looked at about everything out there and I am leaning towards Econoline Trailers - Viewing 6 Ton Mini-Max® Tilt(13,800# GVWR) Technical Specifications
as the deck height is only 27"

Haven't got one yet but have read and reread everyones replies, I agree a tilt bed trailer would be the handiest but after the tractor purchase and still wanting a few attachments I need to scale back some. Still leaning towards the stand up ramps but everyone brought up valid pros and cons of each design.

I think this is the most versatile design. The ramps can stand up, or lay down and the dovetail can pop-up if needed. :thumbsup:

I will agree with you on that ramp setup just a little more trailer than I could handle.

After spending a couple years with my stand up ramps I can say there have been a few times I wished they were not there. Examples are when hauling tractor with rotary cutter and disc harrow. With these two loads and length of trailer, it would be better if I could shift the load to the rear 2-3 feet. I do not currently use a load distributing hitch and that may help/resolve the issue I have of too much tongue weight. I like the idea of the over the tires bed which could be an issue, but hasn't so far. My initial concern with a tilt was if wanting to carry an extra implement and the tractor. I suppose if extra attachment was properly tied down it really wouldn't be affected by the tilting. Other concern would be the pintle hitch. Not real common on trailers towed by pick ups. Common on trailers we use that are towed by larger trucks. See them alot on dump trucks.

Went ahead and bought a PJ 14000# 18' +2' dovetail with standup ramps. The ramps are spring loaded with a double hinge so if the trailer is empty they can be laid down on the dovetail. Told salesman that I was still on the fence regarding the ramps and he told me that since it was more of an equipment trailer he sells very few with slide in ramps. Plan on keeping the trailer a long time so resale is not a major concern but you never know. Since I have to haul the tractor to where I need to use it, plan on just leaving it on the trailer and keeping them both in the shed. Now the only decision to make is which fel grapple to get!
