I don't doubt it. Ford and GM have had 15,000# hitches for some time.

the # that's most changed is the GCWR 37,600lbs. looks like CDL territory in our state by over 11500 lbs.

towing a 30,000lb. trailer and still being within the rated specifications for a (1 ton ) is in a new class...

wonder if the states are going to force buyers to get CDL certification once the trailer exceeds about 18500lbs.

Anything over 26k is CDL territory everywhere in the country. 30k is a lot of weight. I've had that kind of weight in my 2 1/2 ton International dump and you can feel it. I've used the dump to tow my 580k backhoe on my triaxle trailer and I could feel it back there. My dump truck weighs over 12k empty, that's got to be about 4k more than the Dodge. Plus with my pintle hook set up I can put a lot more tongue weight on the truck. I think this race to see who can tow the most is getting out of control.

Unhuh... for a block @ 2mph! ;) Although, during a trip to New Zealand a few years back, Toyota had some pretty slick little diesel (V-6 turbo) utility trucks that got 34 mpg. Sure would like to see Toyota get into the diesel game.

I agree it is getting insane. I also had a single axle dump, sounds just like the one you had. I used it to tow my trailer and TD-8E dozer and a Deere backhoe. When the truck was empty you could really feel the trailer back there with either machine. I just can't image wanting to tow that much with a pickup. Its not about starting, it's about stopping and controlling. Yes trailers have brakes, but I like having a vehicle that can handle the load and hold back on hills.

Its like an all you can eat restaurant, you don't have to eat all you can. Same thing with a truck, you don't have to tow all you can.

That Toyota P/U shuttle ad is misleading. That orbiter without payload and fuel weighs about 170,000 lb. The towing rig under the orbiter probably adds another 20,000 lb or so. We all have seen strongest man competitions where contestants pull a 200,000+ lb aircraft.
