96 was the first year for obd2 requirements and it will provide freeze frame data, some earlier obd1 systems will also provide data although usually more limited. There are also a few vehicles that implimented obd2 prior to 96, (94 and95 Ford PSD is one that comes to mind).
Newer vehicles will provide much more data though.

The Wirecutter does a lot of tech and other gear reviews, and recommends a cousin to yours, which I bought and I agree with you and them that our Spy Tec cameras are solid and reliable.

They list a whole bunch of spec and details on a bunch of cameras, but they recommend capacitor-based cameras for anywhere that weather hits extremes of heat OR cold- so that's what we went with in the $50-60 ranges, and ours are nearly 2 and 3 years old, and still working solidly.

[Except that like I said, all we've caught have been boring normal traffic images...

Yes I have the capacitor model as it can get pretty hot and cold here and I didn't feel like having to take the camera out every time I got parked the car.
When I bought mine it was about $80 off amazon but the prices seem to have come down quite a bit over the last couple years.

I think the only thing I really saw since installing the camera was a guy that pulled out and stopped in front of me on a back road facing the wrong way, still not sure what he was thinking, luckily there was a rare turn off lane so I was able to avoid a head on.

On the bright side of that long chase scene, the load was tied down pretty well. Despite all the violent swerving, none of those vehicles popped off.

I was surprised the trailer recovered each time from the fishtail and he didn't roll it. Definitely took it to the edge.
