F250 6.2 V8 vs F150 Ecoboost

The neighbor has both the v10 and a '12 EB. The EB does NOT have the engine braking that a v8 or v10 has.

I have a 2009 F350 V-10 and I love it. I have 410 gears and a supercab. I don't put a lot of miles on and I average about 11 MPG all around which is great for the weight of the truck. If I drove 15K a year I would look for something with better fuel milage.

The 3V V10 combined with the torqshift tranny might be the best gas powertrain for towing ever made.

Banks held the record for the fastest Class RV for a while. It had a V10 in it.

If you are going to wait a year the 2015 F150 should be out. Hard to tell what it might be.



The thing that sucks about a gas F250 is you don't gain much towing capacity over a Ecoboost F150.

Oh yes you do. 22k GCWR and 12.5k conventional (bumper) towing is a huge leap from the EB.

Took the liberty to look at the 2014 Ford Towing Specifications. Below are the maximum capacities possible with the configurations shown below. Please note these are maximums and are heavily dependent on cab style, wheelbase, 4x2 vs 4x4, gear ratio, etc. (One must really be careful how the truck is configured with the F150 to achieve these values)

The newer F150 with the "Heavy Duty Payload Package" seems to be very capable from "Fords" perspective.

F150 ecoboost is limited to 11,300 on the fifth wheel with both the max tow and max trailer packages required. The F250 6.2 is at 16,000 on a fifth wheel. Almost 2.5 tons difference.

You can tow 11,300 with a Ecoboost. You would be gaining 1200lbs with a F-250. Finding a Ecoboost on a lot equipped to tow 11,300 may be tough. I think Ford wants to sell a Ecoboost F-150 or a diesel Superduty.

Put a gooseneck in the F250 and tow 16000. 4700lbs.
