I always know I'm probably looking at a sucker when I hear someone bragging about how the salesman 'worked to get them into a new car for the same payment as they were paying'. Almost guaranteed they rolled over a deficit and took on more debt.

Yep. Nothing like paying interest on it twice!

The profit on a full sized truck is as much as $10K, while it is a few hundred dollars on a fuel economy type car. Which one do you think they are going to push? But my '98 Tacoma only has 120K on it, so it will be years before I have to worry about truck buying. {If I do need a bigger truck, I borrow Mamma's '92 GMC, which has a lot less miles than mine does}

I did bite the bullet and buy a '13 Camry in July of last year. I found one up in Indiana with 2000 miles on it that had been rear-ended. I paid $17600+tax+$860 shipping+$1500 dealer fee+$1000 for body work{about $21K}. It just rolled over 10K last week and I had it serviced for the first time. As few miles as I drive, it should last me for 25-30 years.

The SLT would equate to an LT Suburban, the LTZ is more like the GMC Denali. Both or very expensive which is why we just purchased a 2013 Suburban LT with 13K miles on it for under $41K. Still alot and even too much, but new LTs sticker for $60K+ with 4WD. I do have some remorse, frankly we don't like the new one quite as much as the 2001 GMC Yukon XL with 215K miles. Just not as comfortable (not bad though). One gripe is there is no arm rest for the driver and front passenger on the new ones. On the 2001 the armrest is perfect for very relaxed driving. The comfort just can't be beat on the '01.

This is why the last 15 or so new vehicles I have bought I have paid cash for or financed no more than $10,000 for 36 months.

We just bought a new Ford Edge Sport in February and I borrowed $10,000 on it. It will be paid off in June.

I have a separate savings account for vehicles. Each month I put in $400 per vehicle we have and make the payments to myself. That's about $5000 per year. That makes a nice down payment when it's time to replace after 4 or 5 years.

I always love how our government says there's no inflation or the value of the dollar is not going down in value yet everything is going up in prices except wages.

Everything is going up in price from health care, food, utilities, vehicles, gas and the list goes on an on. A 17 Trillion dollar deficit that we pay about 35 billion a month on has done nothing but raise the cost of everything but wages.

Out of 3 trillion in revenue almost 1/2 of a trillion goes to just paying interest. Thats our tax dollars that we pay in that will never see. Just goes to some bank, wall street investor or China whom is lending money to our country that can't seem to grasp the concept of fiscal responsibility.

I'm sorry that this really doesn't have to do much with the price of sticker shock. I'm just concerned that before too long we will get into the realm of hyperinflation where the dollar won't be worth squat. Our friends to the north just passed us on having the largest/most stable middle class and China is set to us on being the worlds strongest economy within the next month or two. Maybe it's just me but raising the min wage to 10.10 is like pissing on a fire.

We bought our 2008 Suburban LT 4x4 in December of 2008 right when everything was going South. It stickered for almost 48k. We walked out paying 31k including tax and title and $700 in negative equity from our Trailblazer we traded in. I think we did pretty good on it. Still have it. It is now paid for and only has 34k miles on it. Next up is probably a new(er) 3500 4x4 GM to take over towing our camper from the current 1500 Silverado. Then the current Silverado and/or Suburban can be used to tow the stock trailer to the shows where we will stay.

I"m 67 and recently retired. I decided I wanted a new truck, one that would last me until I have to turn in my driver's license.

I've had one new vehicle in my 50 years of driving, a 1988 Dodge PU for $12k. I keep stuff until it falls apart.

I"ve liked the looks and the reliability of the Tundra for a while now and after researching a lot, I decided on getting my 2nd in my life new truck.

I decided on a 2014 Tundra 4x4 dual cab with a 4.6l V8....plenty of HP and plenty of room for the grandkids.

It cost me $32k. If i wanted the full dose of cosmetics and wanted all the 'lipstick on a pig' options, it would have gone to $54k. That's a heck of a lot of lipstick...and for what? So it looks a little blingier?

I don't need chrome door pillars? I can't imagine what could raise the cost another $22k.

This is the best running, quietest, smoothest, most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned. At 310HP, it will pull any of my trailers with my tractor on it.

In my opinion, the mfgs are all ripping us off when it comes to trucks. The new ones are nice but not $35-55k nice.
