I am bleary eyed from reading the hundreds of threads on trailers. I thought maybe restating what I want to do would help me decide.

Tractor is a L4740 Cab with Loader, Grapples, Back blade, forks, and 7' bush hog.

I would like to get a general purpose trailer to use to move it (rarely right now but maybe more frequent in the future).

SSQA to 3 point arms is 14'. At first I was pretty sure I wanted a dump trailer so as to have more usefulness. I looked at PJ 14', and was not impressed with it at all. They must not use jigs as the weld line for the floor across the front had a 2-3" hump where the floor warped. Also the wiring was open butt connectors. Yuk. I narrowed it down to a Bwise DLP16-15, a VERY nice rig. Then the thought of the bush hog steered me away from it.

Now I am thinking of a 20 or 22' open. I like the idea of a tilt, but then I wouldn't be using it frequently so why not fold up ramps. Then is the matter of a deckover - it would be nice to have the space, but the high center of gravity worries me in loading, especially with the cab. The low profile seems nice but is 83" enough for all the possible needs??!!

More venting than not, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I looked at Bwise tilt trailers last year and thought they were well built. Problem was the dealer didn't have the size I needed in stock and said I'd have to order. I ended up going elsewhere and bought an in stock new left over 2013 14K PJ 22' tilt bed. (Actual length is 23'9"). This and my previous trailer are full tilt bed. For my purposes and the tractors and vehicles I haul I'll take a tilt bed over ramps any day and yes, the tilt beds cost a lot more, almost double a basic ramp trailer.
I also have a 2014 16' Cross Country brand dump trailer.
Extra width of a deck over is nice but wasn't something I needed and I don't care for having things at a higher center of gravity. 83" between the fenders and a 22" deck height hauls everything that I normally haul.

Think twice about the fold up ramps. I had one and the minute you have something a inch longer than the trailer there is a issue.

My current trailer has slide out ramps. Takes 30 seconds to pull the pins and pull them out. No lifting and store out of the way.

Thank you for the replies. What is the deck height of your PJ George? Anyone have the deck height of the low profile vs deckover? I am guessing 26-28" vs 34-36"??

Could not agree more. Especially when you don't have one more chain to chain the ramps up!

I mentioned deck height in my first post. PJ is 22"

George,
Yes you did- sorry. All the reading on here must have overfilled my head and gave me a brain fart.

Get a long enough trailer to adjust the weight distribution on the tongue. Run from the stand up ramps for loading equipment unless you like blocking the rear of the trailer to load. There are users on here who swear by them but I'm all for a heavy set of double hinged spring assist ramps. They take minimal strength to lift up and can be pinned up or lay flat. Don't get cheap ramps. My deck over LP is around 33". When I was looking at trailers I put everything in a spreadsheet to keep track of different models from every manufacturer.

As far as the tilt trailer, alot of guys really like them. My only concern would be if I had something loaded on the tongue and couldn't tilt the trailer to load something else. With a power tilt it wouldn't be as big of a concern except you are going to be elevating a load in the air. They do make split decks to try and get around this problem.
